Families will have digital access to the For Families report after logging in to their student’s i-Ready dashboard and entering our district report code: 1HX9DP on the top right-hand corner of the For Families tab. This code is applicable to all students throughout the district and is offered to families so they can access student results before deciding whether or not to share them directly with their children. For additional information about how to access and interpret results, please click HERE. Laptop Policy Students were all issued a laptop on Thursday of this week. Unlike in years past, this device will not be going home with students each night. Instead, they will place the laptop inside our charging cart so that it is ready for use the next day. School Gum Policy There has been an increase in students coming to school with gum. This is not allowed. Gum is not allowed in class. Students have been informed and continue to disregard. Students have been warned and the next time a student has gum, a reflection form will be issued. Cell Phones & Smart Watches This first week of school we have noticed a number of students wearing Apple Watches to school. Per county guidelines, Apple watches and smart watches are allowed in elementary schools. Please make sure your child is either leaving smart watches at home. Teaching Museum WWII Field Trip Fifth grade is headed to the Teaching Museum North in Roswell for a half-day field trip on December 7th (Fullerton, Locurcio) and December 8th (Lew, Fernandez). Students will be engaging in learning activities related to WWII. They will get to rebuild Anne Frank’s secret annex as well as watch a performance of her life. They will participate in an interactive tour that combines reading skills with key historical concepts. Students will leave on a bus around 8:30 and be back at 1:30. Please use the payment portal on the NPE website (Link) to make a payment of $6.00 for the field trip. If you haven’t done so already, please print and return the attached permission form. We are looking forward our field trip in December! Classroom Spelling Bees The New Prospect Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 8:00 AM. Each 4th and 5th grade class will conduct a classroom spelling bee during the week of November 13th-17th to determine a winner and runner-up to represent each class. Homework This year we have decided as a grade level to implement optional homework for extra review and practice at home. Homework in fifth grade will not be counted towards student grades. Rather, it will used solely for academic enrichment purposes. It is an excellent opportunity to review concepts at home while honing fifth grade skills and developing great study habits! Weekly homework will consist of fifth grade math and language skills and will exceed no more than 1 double-sided page per week. All homework will be due at the end of the week, each Friday. Students will also practice using their school agendas to write down their assigned homework at the beginning of each week. Again, homework is completely optional in fifth grade. Homework will begin next Monday, August 14th. We look forward to your support as we implement this new process! Laptop Policy Students were all issued a laptop on Thursday of this week.
