We have had an amazing first week of school! The faculty and staff have loved having our school full of students and their bright, shining faces again! Upcoming Dates 8/16-8/20 - iReady Diagnostics 8/20 - Back to School Bash Photos from Week One Check out of photo gallery page for a glimpse of students enjoying week one! If you would prefer your child's photo not appear in our photo gallery or on teacher-run twitter pages, please let your child's homeroom teacher know so their face can be replaced with a smiley! Headphones Need week you must sent your child to school with headphones. In most cases, headphones were included with the supply boxes purchased through our PTA. We are beginning iReady benchmark testing of all students next week and they must have headphones. Email your homeroom teacher if this is a concern for you financially and we will find a solution. iReady Diagnostic Information Next week, all fifth graders will begin taking the iReady Diagnostic Tests for both math and reading. These Diagnostics are used to determine a student's current level in different facets of the two subjects. Students will have two days to complete each diagnostic, and it is vital that they work hard and do their best so that their results show their true ability. The Diagnostics are adaptive in nature and it they adjust themselves based on a student's responses. This means that each student's assessment will be different and some will be longer than others. A long assessment does not equal a high level and a short test does not equal a lower level. The length of the assessment is simply determined by how long it takes the program to determine an accurate measure of the student's ability. Math Unit Parent Letters This year, Fulton County is providing parent letters for the 5th grade math units. Click the links below to access the appropriate parent letter for your child. Note: At this time there are not letters for Accelerated Math. We are working with WBMS and the district to provide letters moving forward. On Level Unit 1 Advanced Unit 5 Unit Resources For each unit taught in math, the fifth grade team is working on compiling resources for home use on the different topics taught. Shark Lesson This week all classes got to visit with the resident NPE shark expert - Ms. Hall! Students learned all about sharks and got to see some amazing shark fossils and a preserved shark jaw! Ms. Hall is a wealth of shark knowledge and has even gone on a shark tagging expedition with the company OSearch! During her shark lesson she shared a website where students can track tagged sharks. If students are interested in tracking sharks at home they can visit the website here: Osearch.org/tracker Register For Girls On the Run! Register now for Girls On the Run!
